Catch up (part 1)

Well, all you mid-Missouri snow lovers, you got your snow. And now it's gone, leaving the half-frozen, half muddy ground. But don't worry, we still have all of February, so you might get some more.

Yes, hello, I'm back after long month. Lots of things have happened. I'll try to catch you up on them.

First of all, we sold all the puppies. They were adorable, and we were (sort of) sad to see them go, but they went to good homes. We gave one to one of the families from our church. It was the one we named Haelix (see puppy post) and from what they tell me he's fine and growing. Oh, and they renamed him Canaan.

Recently we went down to my grandparents' house to celebrate my sister and younger cousin's birthday.

Chloe turned eight.

And this is a winter cactus. Completely off topic, but pretty.

One of the things she got was The Dragon and the Raven, an audio drama. Its author, G.A. Henty, was a christian writer in the 1800s and his books are really good. They always have good characters and a godly message (as well as being extremely exciting.) We just finished listening to it. It was epic but (spoiler alert) sad too. Look into it.

Here at the farmstead things have been going well. We have been planning next year's garden, taking water to our animals in the cold wind of the morning (I'm not a cold-weather-liking person...can you tell?) and figuring out how to deal with our sheep and goats who think they can just get around the fence my dad and brother put up by walking on the frozen pond. Humph.

We have also been working pretty hard on school work.

This would be a very long post if I continued. Instead I'll just split it into two.

Just wanted to share...

I was reading my Bible this morning and this particular passage caught my eye:

This wisdom have I seen also under the sun, 

and it seemed great unto me:

There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great 

king against it, and besieged it, and bullet great bulwarks again it: 

Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet

 no man remembered that same poor man. 

Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless, the poor 

man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard. The 

words of wise men are heard in quiet, more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools. 

Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much good.

Update on the Puppies

They are five (almost six) weeks AND OH, SO ADORABLE!

This is Haelix. He is a really good natured, friendly pup. I think....he is my favorite. I don't know. So hard to decide! 

This is Logan. These pictures don't do him justice (but really none of the others do either). It's so hard to get good picture of little squirming, playing, biting fur balls, you know? Logan is sweet but playful and he can get feisty sometimes. :)  

This is Noble. He's laid back, sweet, and the calmest of them all. He does play/fight with the others sometimes but not as much.

This is Ruby. She is the opposite of what this pictures makes her out to be. She is very feisty in a playful sort of way, biting and pulling and chopping...but she's not mean, and she will fall asleep on you if you let her chew you up first. 

This is Prissa. She is a sweet pup too (how many times have I used that word? They're all sweet.) and not as rough as her sister. She looks the most like Beulah. 

And this is Freddy-Aspen-Bruno-Buster. We, uh, couldn't decide. He gets called Buster the most, because it's his personality. I've called him Chopper before too, 'cause his teeth hurt! :) He's kind of like Ruby, rather feisty, but just not as much.

He gets chewed on and fought with a lot, and for some reason, he and Haelix like to play with Noble. Logan likes to play/fight with Ruby. Haelix likes Prissa and sometimes bites her tail continually (but then, they all do that.)

ETC. on all the playing and fighting with each other. I could go on and on.

Pictures of the Puppies

Good morning, everyone! Here you are! More pictures our new puppies!

The one to the far left is the only black and white one,
all the other ones are brown.

And if you are observant, you will have noticed that there are now six! About ten minutes after I posted yesterday, she had another one. Then she must have had the sixth one late last night, because this morning there were six!

These pictures were very hard to take. It's pretty chilly outside, so Beulah is laying is a way that keeps them warm---her leg over top them like a blanket. And her head kept getting in the way. She is a very good mother, always taking care of them and everything. We're thrilled.

Four of them are boys, and two of them are girls---surprisingly like our family. We haven't named them yet, but we've been brainstorming since they were born. :)

Hurrah!

Beulah had puppies!

We had just gotten back from my Grandma Jeanne's house for a short visit, and Beulah, our big white Great Pyrenees, had puppies! We were expecting them anytime and were very excitedly waiting for them, and THEY'RE HERE!

K.J is a Border Collie, so they are half Border Collie, half Great Pyrenees. There are four so far.

Happiness! :)

I will give more of an update sometime later and definitely more pictures! :)

New Arrivals

Hello everyone! Hope things are going well for you all. Things have been fine around here---mostly. A few of us kind of have a cold/allergies/sickness going on right now, but it's mild for the most part and hopefully we'll feel better soon. The weather is starting to feel lovely, nice and cool.

Guess what! We got some sheep...(about a month ago, but I forgot to tell you...)! They are St. Croix sheep. Our plans are to breed them and sell them and maybe butcher some for meat. Lamb is actually really good, you should try it.

The ram we got from our neighbors, the Pelcs, and the ewes we got from somewhere else. They were really, really terrified of us when we first got them, especially the ewes, but we have started hand feeding them every once in a while and so now they come when we call (most of the time). We named them Tess and Dot. Dot is the one with the black spot on her ear. They were born in April.

This is how we transported them, with tarps
and wood chips and everything.

The ram is about eleven months old.

For now, we put the two ewes in the small fenced area with the shelter and the ram (Jacob or Jake, it depends on who you ask) is in another fenced place right next to them. One day a few weeks ago we let the ewes out into the pasture with the goats (with whom they get along fine) and they wondered off. We spent about half an hour looking for them, finally finding them down by the woods. It sounds a lot like the Bible verse in Isaiah, doesn't it?

All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord has laid upon him the iniquity of us all. - Isa. 53:6

Can't think of a name for this one...

Hey guys,  I've been gone for a while, sorry about that. Summer has busy, fun, hard, and beautiful. Of course it's not over yet, but these last few days have been really nice.

One morning recently we had hash-browns and fried ham for breakfast. We've been trying to have more protein for breakfasts the past few weeks, but it is easier than it sounds. I, for one, have noticed that we keep coming back to eggs. Eggs are good every once in a while (says me) but twice or more a week might get old. I've been eating them though, and my Mom tries to make a variety so I think I'm getting used to it.


Before this was eaten, I took a picture. What do you think? A piece of ham or a flattened, meat-eating fish?

It is watching you with its big, bony eye....

Half for school, have for fun, I have been reading about a certain time in history, the 1400s. More specifically the 1460s, when there was a civil war in England called the Wars of the Roses. It is one of my most favorite times in history now, with all of it's battles and swords and betrayals and good guys and bad guys and the two major sides, Lancaster and York....sorry, I like talking about it. It's got everything a medieval story book would have, especially with the believable characters. (I have to keep reminding myself that it's history.)

I'm going to write a report on it eventually, and I might even post it on here.

Did I ever tell you about the time (several months ago) that we went to at cave? I might have mentioned it, but I didn't give you pictures. It was in the Cameron Cave in Missouri.

 It was really fun and jaw-dropping amazing. Of course, our tour guild mentioned "millions of years" in reference to the layers of the rock, but we were prepared for that.

Well, I have to get back to my morning. I need to read my Bible and history (hurrah!) and pretty soon lunch.
