Mini Beulah and KJs - Spring addition.

So, some of you know that our dog, Beulah, had puppies again, while some of you don't because I haven't posted about them. They are cute, as always, and fun to romp around in the grass with. Spring puppies are much more relaxing than winter puppies, since we don't have to get up in the middle of the night to make sure they're warm.

"Mine! Mine!"

She had eight, six boys and two girls, but one of the girls died. It was hard for Beulah to keep track of all them, and she accidentally laid on one. :(


They are about eight weeks at this point, and we're just getting around to posting them to sell.



We seemed to have a harder time naming them this time. These two (the picture above and the first two below) we called Clarence and Logan #2 (because he looks like Logan from the last batch.) Seth calls Clarence "Clearance", which I tried to explain to him was a completely different thing, but he didn't really understand.

is a cuddly, playful cotton ball.

Blue eyes, laid back personality. Sweetheart.

And these are the twins, Trouser and...Little One. Or Rufus. (Never really decided on that one). They are both a lot like KJ (the dad), only Rufus is smaller.

Trouser. He would make a good guard dog, I think.

Rufus. A sweet little companion puppy.

This is Pep-squeak. I named him that. First I wanted to call him Pepper because of all the little black dots on his nose and face, but no one really like that. And then one day I was playing with all of them and he made a squeaky noise. So therefore, "Pep-squeak." (It's a nickname, okay? LOL)

This is Mikey. Or Bucky. I don't know how we got either of those! I think Buddy changed to Bucky, while Mikey...that was someone else's idea. Something with a "eee" on the end fits him, I guess :)

He is a sweet little one, though. :)

And last but certainly not least, is Princess. She is the girl (I'm sure you didn't guess), and we were going to call her something else, but being the only girl and the way she acts sometimes, Princess seems to fit her better. She is so fun and so pretty.

Well, I was tagged again, meaning I am going to answer more questions from my friends. :)

Esther's questions and my answers:

1. What is your biggest pet peeve?

(Okay, so I had to look up to make sure I knew what 'pet peeve' was. The definition is something like "A pet peeve is a minor annoyance that an individual identifies as particularity annoying to him or her self.") 

Negativity. It drives me crazy/so so sad. Come on people, we can do better! :)

2. What is your favorite color?

Blue or green. Both, actually. And brown. I can't decided!!!

3. What is one situation that you would change if you could go back and do so?

Oh, there's so many...*sigh* Don't really want to think about them. All the times I look back to a conversation and wish I hadn't said something, be it with my friends or my family. And I'm sure there's other things as well, but I can't really pin point anything in particular right now. Ask me in a year or two.

4. What is your biggest short term wish?

Well, our family is going through some tough sickness right now, so getting past it in time go to a church meeting this weekend is the first thing that comes to mind. Besides, being sick is just awful.

5. Who is your hero?

My hero....hmm. (I'm assuming you mean besides God/Jesus.) I guess I'd say my Dad. I love him. The funny thing is, on a day to day basis I don't think of him like that, but the older I get, the more I realize how many things he does/goes through that are hard for him. I'm so thankful for him.

6. What was your favorite stuffed animal as a child?

Haha! I had two. The first was a sheep I called "Lamby" and when I got older I really liked a panda bear named "Po".

7. Do you like to write?

Yes I do! (That's one of the reasons I have this blog, but I assume you mean stories.) I like to make up stories, and I have tried to write some of them down. But either writer's block stops me or I realize it's not worth it right now. I do have some I want to finish...maybe in the future.

8. Do you have animals?

Yeppers, a lot. Chickens, goats, a few sheep, ducks, dogs, cats...am I missing anything? 

9. What is your dream vehicle?

Funny you asked. I actually don't have one. I have just started taking interest in cars because I'm in the process of leaning how to drive, and to be honest, as long as it works, that's fine for me. (I also don't know the difference between a Ford and Chevy, either, so I couldn't tell you.)

10. What is your dream family size?

I live in a family of six children (almost seven), so that's the norm for me right now...I would like to have more than one child, but an exact number is hard to place. Children are a blessing and I'll leave it up to God. :)

11. Do you like yard work?
Yeah...I guess. I like to mow the yard on my Dad's riding mower and I don't mind shoveling mulch. (LOL) I'm not much of a gardening person but since we do have a garden I help with it.

12. What is your favorite thing to write about?
For stories, I tend to lean towards the medieval time period and modern day/slight sci-fi. (I have yet to come up with something about space travel, so when I say sci-fi I mean gadgets and computer related things.) Medieval stuff is actually easier for me to write, I think, because you can do research and read history to help you with a backdrop, whereas there are so many things about the present time that we haven't learned yet. But that's just my opinion. :)

"Mom, there's some bees in the rose bushes!"

It was a relatively peaceful evening. The kids were playing outside in the yard, Mom was grilling on the front porch, the puppies (which I will get to in my next post) were romping around the lush, green grass, and the sun was shining its last few golden rays of light over our land before disappearing below the tree tops. Dad and I were inside doing various things. I may or may not have been on the computer and setting the table at roughly the same time. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Noah run up to Mom and tell her something. A minute later Mom comes in and says that there's a BUNCH of bees on the rose bush and she wants to take a picture of it. Then she showed Dad and I the pictures.

Dad was naturally startled as the protector of the house hold and immediately told everyone to come inside, then went to take a look at it himself. There were hundreds. And they hadn't been there a few days before. Dad started looking for someone to come get them, and then arranged for some friends to come the following morning. Until then, the front yard was more or less banned until the bees were gone. We moved the puppies and the dogs to the back yards so they wouldn't accidentally stir them up, and then thanked God that we hadn't stirred them up ourselves. The kids had been running around the rose bushes for a while before Noah noticed it, and anytime anyone could have upset them.

We figured that they could have been: (A) building a hive/headquarters there, or (B) just camping out there for a few days before moving away again. We found out it was most likely they would only be there temporarily. Anyway, some friends from church had been wanting some bees, so the came by with a neighbor who had worked with bees, carefully cut off the branches the bees were on, put it in a bucket, and drove off. Only one person got stung once and they didn't have any special gear on. Bees are like dogs and some other animals, I've been told, and can sense fear.  So if you stay calm you are less likely to get stung.

Anyway, they're all gone now, and we can run in the front yard again. :)

Questions and Answers

So I've been absent for a while. Lots of a things have happened. We got new books, Noah got ducks, Beulah had puppies again, angels protected us and prayers were answered. Where to start...

Well, actually, I'll start with something one of my friend asked me to do. She has a blog too, and she mentioned me on it and asked me various questions about my life. (Apparently it's a on going thing; you do it, then ask the next person, while they ask the next, etc, etc.)

Here are the question she asked me, and here are my answers:

Do you like coffee?

Uh...no...*hides from coffee lovers* Well, not really. I’m sure if I put a bunch of sugar and cream in it I’d like it, but I’ve only ever had plain dark.

What’s your biggest cooking disaster?

Well, there’s been lots of times I’ve forgotten to put in ingredients, burnt the last batch of my Dad’s and brother’s favorite cookies, smoked up the house while frying stuff...and once I dropped a full pizza into the bottom of the oven. Yeah...

What’s the last book you read?

“To Birmingham Castle” by Alicia A Willis. It’s a historically accurate, medieval adventure story written by a homeschool graduate. It’s great!

What’s your favorite singer?

Favorite singer...well, it changes a lot. I guess I’d say Owl City. I love his christian songs. :)

Tell me something that made you smile today.

The day I’m writing this exact sentence? Well, we had some family over and I heard my little cousin singing a hymn from church in her sweet little voice. That’s enough to make anyone smile.

What’s the last thing you ate?

A delicious baked pasta made by my wonderful mother.

What’s your favorite game?

Oh, that’s a hard one. Our family has a nice collection of strategy board games, and I like several. I guess I’d say...something called “Sir Francis Drake.”

Would you rather live in the country or the city?

In the country for sure...though I do like sight-seeing every once in awhile.

What’s your favorite candy?

We don’t have candy very often, but I’d have to say...Reese's Pieces (and chocolate in general.)

Are you a sports person?

No, not really. They’re alright, I guess.

What’s something you’re thankful for?

Family. Friends. Church. A time of relative peace to grow up, raise animals, and learn from God’s word the wonderful riches that He has given us to look into.

Why be Happy?

Hey guys, sorry I've been gone for such a long time.

Here's something I wanted to share with you all. My mom and I found it while reading on a "maturing christian young lady" type blog. It was really good. Give it a listen/watch. :)

And now we're all caught up.

Hello. Yes, I know it's been more that a week, and yes, I know some of you are waiting to see more pictures of our other baby goats that were born, but I've had MAJOR writer's block the past few weeks and could not compose anything, even a blog post. Then I thought of the past few sentences you just read and hurried to write them down before I forgot.

More baby goats! Babe and Nyla had their kids two weeks ago. So now we have five kids running around (even though it's cold.) Speaking of kids, I probably should mention that next summer, we will have a new addition to our family. That's right, my mom's pregnant! :) We've known for a while, but I just haven't written about it yet. She's about three months or so along. That would make us a family of nine, so we're excited. Prayers would be appreciated. :)

Alright, here are some picture of the new baby goats.

Babe's baby is a boy. He looks EXACTLY like her!

We named him B.J, for Babe Junior. 

These are Nyla's kids, Sierra and Black Velvet.

 Sierra is the girl. She looks a lot like Chance, our buck.

Black Velvet is a boy. We call him Velvet for short, and
recently I've been calling him Vel. :)

We're probably going to keep Sierra and sell the bucklings, (as they're called :).

Our sheep will lamb pretty soon. Possibly even next month. And hopefully Beulah will have some more puppies this spring. We've got a lot of animals coming and going, yay!

Catch up (part 2)

Back again. :)

One of the major things that has happened here at the Cochran homestead is the birth of our baby goats. :) Special, (one of our does)  gave birth to twin boys last week. I had heard stories from a few friends (wink to you guys!) about how cute kids are, but I didn't understand the depth of which they spoke.

KIDS ARE THE MOST ADORABLE THINGS EVER!!!

They're already romping around at four days old, playful and happy. It's so hard to capture in pictures, but here you are:

Babe was Special's first kid. She is now pregnant herself. So is Nyla, our other doe. We are expecting them to kid any day now. We have been on a close lookout for them, because of the cold weather and all. It is very easy for baby goats to freeze after birth, so we try to be there to help dry them off.

We were so thankful to the Lord on the day when the kids were born, because we were all outside at the time and it was a relatively nice day---we've been having a lot of relatively nice days this winter. Happiness!

Well, that's pretty much all the catch up I think I'll do. I have school work and etc to do. I'll try to post again soon. See you around! :)
